Thapelo Molomo Crowned Winner of “Idols SA” Season 18

After an astonishing season finale, Thapelo Molomo was crowned winner of Idols South Africa season 18 on Sunday, 13 November.

The televised proceedings featured outstanding performances from Molomo and runner-up, Nozipho Sibiya, at the Heartfelt Arena in Tshwane, Gauteng.

Molomo is a 29-year-old warrant officer in the South African Police Service, who stole the hearts of millions of Mzansi viewers and walked away with over R1 million in prizes. 

The winnings include: a recording contract with Kalawa Jazmee Records, R85 000 worth of musical equipment from Yamaha, a Toyota Starlet along with cash prizes and vouchers from several local and international brands.

Idols SA shared a video on Twitter of their new champion shortly after his win, in which Molomo can be seen thanking his fans and saying: “God bless you guys, it is because of your vote I made it this far. I am really grateful for all that you have done for me.”

The policeman was also supported by General Bheki Cele, South Africa’s Minister of Police, who was in the crowd at the time. 

“He has illustrated to thousands of officers that hard work, determination and perseverance are the foundations of any successful human being,” said Cele.
